Byzantine chant lessons · online & in Jacksonville
Lessons
The easiest way, by far, to learn Byzantine chant is to chant alongside a teacher.
Lessons are one-on-one, online or in person, and built around where you are now and what you chant at your parish.
Starting out
Learn to read the neumes, sing the scales of the eight modes, hold the ison, and chant your first hymns.
Already chanting
Sharpen sight-reading, ornamentation and phrasing, add repertoire, and grow toward leading a chant stand.
For parishes
Hire a chanter for a service, or arrange coaching for your parish’s chanters.

I have been chanting since 1998 and currently serve as Protopsaltis (first chanter) of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Before moving to Florida, I spent eleven years as Lampadarios of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Atlanta, leading the cathedral’s left choir, and served for a time as its Pastoral Assistant.
I came to Byzantine chant from a long background in classical music and I learned to chant the traditional way: from master chanters, standing beside and across from them at the chant stand, service after service. That remains the best way to learn, and it’s how I try to teach. I have led choirs and taught since 2010, in person and, since 2025, online as well. Even so, I am still a student of this incredible art, and grateful to the teachers who continue to shape how I chant.
